Wavestore
Company: Wavestore
Wavestore is a networked CCTV security system with a Linux-based server, and a GUI client running on Windows and Linux. The system is used in hotels, schools, casinos, and business premises worldwide.
Soft Machine (Realtime) Ltd was led towards Qt for the implementation of the GUI by several of the initial requirements:
- The GUI had to run under both Windows and Linux with the same look and feel.
- They wanted to build the application for both platforms from a single source.
- They wanted the application to have a distinctive appearance.
- They needed to be able to easily add support for new languages.
- They needed a license that would allow them to develop the GUI as a royalty free, closed source, commercial application.
"Qt gave all of this out of the box and, being a well designed and documented class library, the development of custom GUI controls has been relatively painless," says Paul Robertson, Soft Machine (Realtime) Ltd. "As new requirements have arisen, Qt has usually been able to provide the basis of the implementation. For instance, Soft Machine (Realtime) Ltd now produce a "Wavestore SDK" for Windows, based on an ActiveQt server."
